Why are interns being asked to work for free?

At the same time that college and university graduates are struggling to find jobs, a majority of employed Canadians under 25 are making minimum wage, and 42 percent of 20- to 29-year-olds are living with their parents, unpaid internships have emerged as another disturbing trend facing young job-seekers in Canada.

Guest column: The car, the commute, and the city

I started commuting at a young age. My parents sent me to a French immersion school that was 50 kilometres away from our house. From the time I was five, I endured a one-hour bus ride twice a day. It sounds awful, but "kid commuting" wasn’t so bad. Guest column: Raising a red flag on school obesity prevention programs

Once upon a time, schools typically sold foods associated with weight gain, such as pop, chips, chocolate bars, and fried food. But in 2011, the government of Ontario decided to save children from bad foods by creating the School Food and Beverage Policy, which provides guidelines for foods sold in school cafeterias. As a result, more "healthy eating" teaching surfaced in every part of the province's school curriculum, from counting calories in math class to food label-reading in gym class.

Guest column: My trip to The Netherlands to debate in The Hague International Model United Nations

From an early age, I have always been interested in politics. I enjoy following global happenings involving poverty, economics, war, and humanitarian efforts to help those in need, as well as numerous other issues that affect the well-being of each and every human regardless of race, gender, or religion.

To strengthen my knowledge of political systems, I joined a group called the Online Model United Nations (O-MUN) in March 2012. It is a Model United Nations (MUN) program where high school students discuss and debate global issues that affect us all.
